Student Chair

Have you been searching for a good buy on a student chair? If so – perhaps I may provide for you a few simple but helpful hints:

First – decide whether you want a traditional wooden student chair or a plastic and metal student chair.

Also – decide on whether you would like the chair with or without a desktop attached.

The first category of student chairs I will discuss is the traditional wooden student chair.

The major manufacturer of these chairs is a company called Jonti-craft. Prices for these chairs vary so make sure to shop around a bit before purchasing.

The Jonti-craft Kydz series student chairs are your basic, classic, natural wood grain, ladder-backed student chairs. They have plastic guides on the bottom of the legs, the slats that make up the curved backrests are spaced so as to provide the highest degree of safety for children. They are dowel-pinned, hardware constructed and extremely sturdy. Also – they come in six sizes that range in seat height from 5 – 18 inches. Prices vary according to size as well as place of purchase - and I have seen prices range from under $50 to around $100.

The second category would be the stackable wood student chair. Again Jonti-craft seems to be the sole manufacturer of these particular chairs. These are a bit more expensive but are well worth the higher price if you need to stack chairs in order to make more room in the center of your classroom. Three ergonomically placed handles are built into the design of this particular stackable wooden student chair. As with all Jonti-craft Kydz student chairs – the corners are all rounded (“Kydz-safe”) and the finish is “Kydz-tuff.”

The next category is chairs made from plastic and metal. A plastic and metal student chair is a chair that may be purchased for about half the price of a chair made of wood. It is also a chair that, while not as durable as a wooden student chair, is still a chair made to take the abuse of daily student use for years to come.

These chairs also offer a little more comfort than a wooden chair, are lighter and easier to move and are usually stackable.

The Virco corporation makes several sturdy and sleekly designed student chairs priced from less than $35 to just over $50.

If you need a chair with a desktop attached you are looking at shelling out a bit more money but are purchasing a student chair that serves several purposes at once – and hence – saving you money in the long run. Academia makes a great all-in-one chair that lists for over $350 yet can be found online for right around $100. These units feature a pencil groove, chrome-plated book rack underneath, 18” seat height, steel reinforced back, self-leveling guides and a lifetime warranty.

So hopefully I have aided you somewhat in your quest for the right student chair or chairs for your particular needs. Remember to shop online – using your favorite search engine to discover the right student desk chair at the right price for you and your institution.
